Located on the Czech side of the Jizera Mountains, the 20-meter-high observation tower on Smrek is a steel construction that opened to the public in 2003. You can admire the panorama of the mountains from two terraces. There is a small buffet at the foot of the tower.
The tower on Smrek is located just a few hundred meters from the Polish border and less than 3 km from the Na Stogu Izerskim hostel. It is open all year round, and entry to the viewing platforms is free of charge. Under the construction, there are wooden benches where you can rest or find shelter in bad weather.
The observation tower on Smrek is a metal structure located at the summit of Smrek Mountain (1,124 m above sea level) on the Czech side of the Jizera Mountains. The platform offers a sweeping panoramic view of the Jizera Mountains, the Krkonoše Mountains, and the Polish-Czech border region.
The most convenient option is to hike from the Polish side to the PTTK mountain hut on Stóg Izerski (via the Ski&Sun gondola or on foot along the red trail), and from there continue to Smrek via the border crossing—about a 50-minute walk from the hut. An alternative is a longer hike along the trail from Czerniawa-Zdrój running along the border with the Czech Republic.
The summit of Smrek itself is 1,124 meters above sea level. The tower stands at the summit and raises the viewing point by an additional dozen or so meters, offering a 360° panorama.
Admission to the observation tower on Smrek is free. The tower is managed by Czech municipalities and is open to tourists year-round (availability in winter depends on trail conditions).
The hike from the mountain hut on Stóg Izerski is relatively easy and short (about 50 minutes), so it is suitable for older children. The routes starting directly from Świeradów are long and more demanding—in that case, it is better to combine them with a gondola ride.
